What type of irrigation should you choose?
Under Pressure Reticulation Perth
The type of irrigation that you may decide to go with depends on many factors including soil type, desired aesthetics, plant type, budget and landscape layout. We have outlined a brief description of each type of irrigation below. Our experienced team can help you decide what type of irrigation is most suitable for your needs.
Gear drive sprinklers rotate slowly providing an even distribution. Best suited to larger landscaped areas such as lawns and turf. Gear drives have an approximate watering rate per hour of 10-20mm with a suggested run time of 30-40 minutes.
Rotary sprinklers can be used on either a fixed height riser or a pop up sprinkler. Mainly used in garden and lawn areas, rotary nozzles are highly adjustable and have a lower application rate which minimizes water run-off. With an approximate watering rate per hour of 10-15mm and a suggested run time of 40-60 minutes, rotary nozzles mean your soil can retain more water benefiting your lawn and plants.
Similar to rotary nozzles, these can be installed as either a fixed height riser or pop up sprinkler. Having a higher application rate per hour, of 35-45mm, and a suggested run time of 13-16 minutes, these are traditionally used for all types of garden and lawn areas.
Micro spray irrigation can provide a high application rate which is ideal for smaller gardens, such as vegetable gardens. The approximate watering rate per hour for micro sprays is 35-45mm and the suggested run time is 13-16 minutes. With a large range of radius and heights to suit your specific garden needs, these are a great budget-friendly option.
Typically installed underground or under mulch, dripline slowly releases water directly into the soil near the roots of the plant rather than spraying overhead. Using a dripline can reduce water evaporation making it a very water efficient option for your garden or plants. The approximate water rate per hour is 15-20mm and the suggested run time is 30-40 minutes.
Suggested run times to apply a standard 10mm drink in sandy soils and the run times may need to be varied depending on soil type and sprinkler layout.
